The Use of Computers in Today's Society

Computers are a vital part of the world in which Americans live. They have become very important in business, entertainment, communication, education, economy, and media. They have literally changed the way that Americans live their lives.

One way computers are important is in the business world. They help with inventory management, presentations and documents, and electronic communications. We are more organized when we use computers and we can keep all of our files on a computer.

Another way they are used is for entertainment: music, games, and social networks. Pandora and Youtube can be used to listen to music. Websites for social media such as:  Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Tumblr, and many more.

A third way computers are used is for communication. We can use computers to communicate with people all over the world. Video chatting is even available now. You can use the program “Skype” to video chat with others, or you can also type messages, or call with this program.

Computers also have a big impact on education. College students can now take online courses. Students can get their degrees off online courses. Home schooled students can also get their education online. There are so many online programs. Computers help with homework, when you can’t find an answer or you need help with math, there are videos that teachers have made to help students.

Another big impact computers have is on the economy. You can buy items off the internet, and you can even sell items on the internet. Many people have online stores or they have an eBay account.

Computers help a lot with finding out news. If you need to find out the latest news you can just search. Computers help a lot with research.
Computers themselves have changed and progressed over time and Americans have continued to change with them. All aspects of people’s daily lives are affected by changes and will continue to be influenced by computer technology

How we are affected by technology

In this video Steve Jobs, deceased inventor and owner of apple, tells us how technology has affected our lives. He talks about the communication available now and how iTunes has affected us. He tells us how our technology is used as tools to help us in our everyday life. How we can take videos now at college and go back and takes notes on what our professor has taught us.

In this picture is shows an old computer. It shows how much our technology has changed over the years. This is a very old computer. It used to be used in past years, now we have much better technology that we use. Computers have changed very much over the years. This was the most popular computer in Sweden. More than 10,000 of these were sold in less than 2 years.

This is a modern day computer. It is an apple product. It shows us how much computers have changed over the years. They have changed in looks and also they have better software and can do and accomplish many more things. They have faster speed and they can hold a lot more storage. Computers these days are so wonderful and amazing. It’s amazing what they can do.

I chose this picture because I believe it shows all the different possibilities and uses for today’s technology. It shows how technology affects our business world and education. Technology is so helpful with education and business these days. It makes things much easier and helps us understand different things. Schools are starting to use ipads and other technology  instead of textbooks.

In this video, this woman is explaining how technology can affect us. It is a wonderful thing but it could also be a bad thing. People use technology to bully others and cause fights. You can also get viruses on your computer or you could possibly get hacked. You must be careful when using the internet, be careful what websites you go to and who you communicate with.

2001 Space Odyssey Review

2001 Space Odyssey Review
I have just watched this video and honestly it makes no sense to me at all. All that I understand that happens is that a bunch of gorilla go crazy and stand at a random pole in the middle of the wilderness. Also I saw a gorilla smashing bones with another bone. It confused me.  The main characters in this video are a bunch of gorillas. I am not sure what device the director used to change the scenes. The gorillas in this video seemed to be communicating. I wasn’t sure what they were saying to each other but it sure seemed like they were talking to each other. There is a pole thing and it starts making noises. They gorillas seem to be afraid of it at first but then they touch it. Then the sun starts shining over the pole. The characters don’t seem to be very intelligent but in the end it seems like one of the gorillas finally understands life. After the sun goes over the pole the pole goes away and it shows all the gorillas walking around a big pile of bones. All of the gorillas leave except for one. This one gorilla picks up one of the bones and he starts hitting the other bones with it. It seems as if he’s found some use for the bone. Then all of a sudden it shows a random animal getting hurt every time he hits the bones together. I think that maybe he is transforming into a human and learning how to use his arms and stuff, but I honestly have no clue what this video is about. At the very end he throws the bone into the air. Then it shows space with a space shuttle or something floating in the air. I thought that maybe it represents how man was supposedly made, although I do not believe in evolution.

HOW HURRICANE SANDY HAS AFFECTED OUR NATION

This week I decided to write about the storms for hurricane Sandy. I got my information from http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/11/08/snow-noreaster-storm-east-coast-snow/1691259/. It is said that there are 4.7 inches of snow in Central Park. With gusts of wind as much as 54 miles per hours, the storm brought 12 inches of snow to Connecticut and the Jersey Shore. Places such as Connecticut and Rhode Island got hit with 3 to 6 inches of snow. Worcester, Massachusetts had a total of 8 inches of snow. Central Park’s total is already on record for one of the snowiest Novembers. There are tons of power outages and 11,000 more were recorded to be without power on Wednesday, raising the total for New York to 75,000 without power. Many schools are closed and delayed.  It is going to be difficult for all these families. Tons of houses and land has been destroyed. People are shivering and freezing with all the power outages and the cold weather.  Some of the highlights with this weather are:  Sandy knocked out power to many on the East Coast, there was snow added to the bad weather in the North Eastern, and many flights were cancelled. In New York City many policemen went to neighborhoods trying to get residents to evacuate. The mayor didn’t issue any mandatory evacuation. Many people stayed behind because they worried about looting and others stayed behind because they didn’t think anything worse could happen to what they have already gone through.  In Long Beach, New York, the 21,000 people who decided to stay behind from earlier evacuation requests were told again to leave the city. All construction in New York was put on hold. Last week a crane collapsed. Parks were closed because the fear of trees falling. It was suggested to drivers that they stay off the road after 5p.m. because of icing. This storm hit 2 days ago and already killed 100 people in 10 states, most of these victims lived in New York or New Jersey.  On Thursday over 292,700 homes were without power and another 403,000 in New Jersey were without power.  Also another problem with this hurricane is that Broadway has been losing money. Another thing hurricane Sandy caused was the killing of an endangered species of turtles, the Loggerhead turtles. There were at least 50 nests of turtles destroyed in Florida’s Juno Beach when the hurricane struck. In North Carolina there were 12 turtle nests destroyed, 50 hatchlings were rescued. Another important thing that might have been caused by hurricane Sandy could have been the presidential election. It is said that some people’s decision on who to elect could have been affected by the reaction of the candidates to the hurricane. Two thirds of the voters for this reason backed up Obama.  So the question is, were they going to vote for Romney but they got swayed to vote for Obama because of the way he reacted. 15% of people said that this was the most important factor in their decision to vote. This information was found at http://video.foxnews.com/v/1954108669001/how-did-hurricane-sandy-impact-the-election. Well, all these horrible things show us that God is in control and He can help our nation and everybody through this rough time. We just need to pray that He will help with this tragedy and be with all the suffering people. None
